I have read some other discussions and it seems like many dental assistants hate their jobs. I am considering becoming a dental assistant and would like to know more about it. Do you get benefits? Is the pay decent?

I have been a dental assistant for 25 yrs. 23 of them have been spent working at a dental school. The other 2 in private practice. Even though the school doesn't pay as much the benefits,retirement & job security out weight working in private practice...

DD has a medical card, but while it covers me for dental check-ups, it doesn't as an emergency for a child....
Dentist said that a few dentists have left and have not been of the 'school system' .
