Hello, After some searching on Google, I ask myself: Is it possible to build a compass (simple showing the heading/direction) with the iPhone 3G's GPS sensor? I have the suspicion, that this is only possible, if the device is moving. Any ideas are appreciated...

Use the difference and time information to determine....
Require the phone to move.
As an update to this, the iPhone 3GS does include an actual, working digital compass that there are two ways to make a compass for the current iPhone 3G.

My Etrex 10 has a compass but I'm not having much luck with it.
I'm currently in an Oslo hotel room trying to find my compass bearings to get an idea where the sun is going to rise so I can setup a timelapse.

I read that my HTC Mozart phone has digital compass sensor. But I have not found any compass application on my phone which uses that sensor. There are more than 90 compass applications at the market. What application is the best choice for my phone?

You will find HTC's compass.
Go to the Marketplace on your phone and choose the HTC Apps section .
