I have iTunes and an iPode and I Rip a CD I have into iTunes and then connect my iPode to sync up.

Btw, you should hit the eject a message across saying that your iPod is syncing and tell you what songs it's updating onto your ipod button on the left....
Once it is finished it will say Sync Complete, okay to disconnect ipod.
