Hi,
When I burn DVD's, my DVD has a max burn rate of 8x, why are the burns so slow? I never get anywhere near the max burn rate. In fact I am lucky if I get 1/4 the rated burn rate. So, at 8x max, I am lucky to get to...

Are you doing videos or are....
That will go quickly.
Once the ISO or folder set is completed, you simply copy those to a disc.
If you are burning video discs, the video must be encoded hardware.
A lot depends on what you are doing.

Written discs, as we all know only too well, do not always play nice, support is not mandatory on any set top player, and ....
Optical discs are far more reliable than any downloaded files can ever be.

I just brought a external blu ray burner for my macbook pro and would like to make copies of my movies onto a blu ray disc (which are already are blu ray) I have toast 11 with BD plug in. Most of my videos are in MKV...

Another thing to try is to burn a data disc in ....
That way you won't waste any discs but can compare encoding each test so Toast doesn't just reuse the files it already encoded.
Video and choosing Save as Disc Image.
