If you buy a dividend yielding stock on the day it pays its dividend, do you get paid?

A stock to collect the dividend and then sell it, buy it any time prior to the ex-dividend date and sell it on the ex-dividend date or any time later.

Hi gurus, I have been burned by individual stocks ( mostly tech stocks) over the past years. Now I am thinking to buy individual high dividend yield stocks or dividend stock funds. Would be greatly appreciated if I can be advised as to which is better...

I have @ 9,400 shares in PTRAX.
It states that the monthly distribution today is 0.0279.
I had assumed that this would mean my cash dividend would amount to 0.0279 x 9,400 = $262.00
However the amount that's been contributed to my account as a dividend...

It seems requested to reinvest the dividend (hence buying more shares), and with the other lot of shares, you requested the dividend....

The SEC yield shows what you'll earn if the current portfolio was held to maturity, minus fund expenses it in a new CD paying 1.5%.
The distribution yield reflects what was earned in the past.
You should focus on SEC Yield.

So years ago, and they have lost 95% of their value since then and have paid no dividend at all.
The dividend yield (you say 5%) is related to the price you originally bought the shares at.

The current system used by CAPS actually rewards your high yield/dividend stocks more than just adding.

Along the logic of saving up x amount of dollars and living off the interest, couldn't one just buy up all dividend-paying stocks and reinvest in more stock until you're at a point where the dividend income is substantial enough to live off of?
