Just start the mailbox wizard and select Mail for Exchange when the wizard company IT department.

That is done by removing it and....
Another option would be to reset the virtual directory back to the default settings .
That will correct the issue as it effectly reinstalls Exchange.
I would suggest moving to Exchange 2010 SP2 to begin with.
