The speed of your connection to handle speeds up to 7Mbits? If it's older, it might not.
Because your ISP doesn't sell you 7Mbps, they sell you 'up to 7Mbps' .

So to really answer you question, it's whatever speed you need and are willing to pay for.
Around the internet and I have seen both my download and upload speeds peak out at over 94 Mb/sec.

Any ideas what the average user's download speed is? I'm working on a site that streams video and am trying to figure out what an average download speed as to determine quality.

The peak bandwidth I've an average speed would....
That was with parallel streams, however.
They have data by state, so if you have money then you can (the "quoted" peak downlink speed).
US resident has a 1.9Mbps download speed.

You can use the router's QoS feature to give your machine priority over the others .
Look in the admin settings.
If your router has some QoS features, then yes.

Good download speeds and good latency.

I have a mac mini running OS 10.5.8, and a Dell laptop running Windows 7.
When I run a speakeasy speed test on the Dell, I get about 18kbps for my download speed.
On the mac, I get only about 8kbps.
Both are connecting wirelessly to the same network.

How many times have you tried it on each computer? Assuming the wireless network has much higher bandwidth than the internet connection, you can get varying bandwidth measurements with any internet connection each time you run the test .
