Different.
So to really answer you question, it's whatever speed you need and are willing to pay for.
Around the internet and I have seen both my download and upload speeds peak out at over 94 Mb/sec.

That was with parallel streams, however.
They have data by state, so if you have money then you can (the "quoted" peak downlink speed).
US resident has a 1.9Mbps download speed.

Otherwise you can install a third ....
If not, you could use an old PC and pfSense or m0n0wall
You can use the router's QoS feature to give your machine priority over the others .
Look in the admin settings.
If your router has some QoS features, then yes.

I'm using a 3G USB stick to connect to the internet, depending on my location the signal strength varies.
So my question is, does signal strength affect throughput and why?

The only way to really tell is to use a speed checker.

54mbps is more than enough.
They are the slowest speed IP includes BT.

Let see how much is your internet speed.
It depends, try broadband speed checker online first.

We can see what your speeds are with and w/o powerboost.
