But, I also think that if you put a trapeze tail piece on a flat top guitar, you'd also have volume would not really be a concern....

At 15, it was a Gibson EB0, because of Jack Bruce. My first bass approx. at the same time was a used Klira copy of beatle bass. at 21, I was still dreaming of an EB0 or of a Fender Coronado but bought a second hand Jazz bass, as new, I still own and play...

XD in the UK, you can get a japanese-made guitar which'll smoke what fender sells at the same price.
Is also a dream guitar of mine, but I'm never going to be able to get one because I'm lefty.
