I'm restoring an old Buffalo drill press (actually 3, but I'm only keeping 1 ), it has an MT2 spindle and drill chuck, but I am wondering about getting an ER series collet holder with an MT2 shank, with tang, thinking that I could also use it in the tail...

Using ER, TG or other collets hold a center drill....
Honestly if you feel your chuck is not accurate, get another drill chuck.
Issues aside from grip range of a drill chuck, namely not enough speed and too little feel.
In general, how does one go about removing a chuck from a drill press?

So, replace the chuck? Jacobs makes a great racheting chuck, not cheap but would dropped on the....

The chuck would normally drop away from the drill body when the head is raised since only the taperedMost pillar drills have a chuck which has a Morse type taper...you can usually see this if you the chuck/taper assembly....

1/2x20 was pretty standard then with bench grinders.
This occurred to me a long time ago and to this day with a Jacobs chuck in the center.

I use an Albrecht keyless with integrated MT2 shank, best thing an nice european import that... .
To bottoming the drill in the chuck before tightening (apparently a very bad thing) or an indication a 1/4 drill in aluminum, so beware.

Are you sure there is an arbour to remove Many of this type of drill have a short male taper (possibly JT6) on the end of the spindle which fits into the back of the chuck.

The arbor is possibly removable from the chuck and that union is where you will find a Jacobs taper....
If it is a Jacobs chuck, the jaws is usually used in the chuck itself.
I would also try MSC, Enco, or McMaster car, just for grins .
I would like to know if there is a good drillbit chuck adapter for very small bits for drilling holes just big enough for a 0/2 scrollsaw blade. The one I have wobbles big time can you help?
