Im guessing they want you to sleeve the gf over the wire up into the ceiling and strap the gf to the rafter before it drops through the ceiling.
Sounds kind of hacked to me id go with the 4sq box idea myself,but what do I know?

Using 10-2 NM cable for a dedicated circuit for a 5000W garage heater. For grounding the switch and j-box, what size do the ground pigtails need to be?
Can they be smaller than 10?

I installed an electric water heater today, what I did is this:
- I ran 10/2 armored cable from the new WH to a 4" j-box I nailed to the main beam which about 24-30" away (this is an unfinished basement).
- From that j-box I ran 10/2 NM over to my panel...

Watts divided by 120 = amps.
Most everything has a label showing the load rating in amps or in watts .
In order to figure the load you need to know the amp draw for whatever is using the power .
