I don't really see the point in having 5-10k in a bank earning 3% interest when you like save up a small emergency fund, and then pay off the smallest balance first to get some motivational momentum going.

They seem to be a pretty good place to put a portion of your emergency fund.
Learn about good budgeting and money management (do your research - no 'seminars' or flashy get rich quick schemes and no Dave Ramsey unless you have the mind of a child). Then apply what you have learned to your life.
