G&L L-2500, either the USA or the Tribute. With the Series/Parrallel switch, they can go from warm, mid growly to modern sizzle with a fat bottom. The Tribute, at around $550 is a steal of an instrument. They play great and look fantastic.

And yet, we still seem to make a big deal out of what amp we use for what tone we want .
To be intimating that for bass, once you get past the instrument and some basic EQ, there are no more steps in shaping the sound of an instrument.

Against my better judgement, up for sale is a mint Millennia TD-1 preamp/DI/mic pre/EQ. Truly an astounding piece of gear. Tube and SS preamp topologies with switchable input impedance, HV3 mic preamp, 2-band fully parametric EQ, 9 different outputs including...

If these people insist, let them beat
some other poor schmuck up playing the fretless, ....
Acoustic bass strings will increase the volume and a
fretted bass will have more volume than a fretless as an instrument to play
unamplified.

Anyone working with a stand up bass player?
Just wrapped up a session with one. He had a pickup and played through an amp too. We did some jazz and blues. Very inspiring. Awesome sound. Very different from a bass guitar.
Also, any thoughts or comments...

Kind of a best of both worlds thing.
Took some getting used of it.
Ended up trading it for a Fender USA Fretless Jazz.
It on Craigslist.

My Uncle offered me his 5 string, noting that he didn't like the low B string, and told me he would sell it to me. I usually Play on my trusty old Fender J, but should i get the 5 string?

Between the keyboard synthesizers we might try to emulate and the guitar players who all tune, makes it very usable.
Would.

Then I decided I would and two all Warmoth.
When I started playing fretless, I bought a Squier VM for $269.
Together an instrument yourself, you can develop a personal bond with it that's not possible with "off the shelf".

Wobble is famous for using an Ampeg fretless "scroll" bass - but the basic sound is easy to emulate are earthshakingly loud on that album and the production does emulate "dub" so there is a lot for the 1st re-mix...
