Can't get anything that looks very good, but you can add a fraction, then right click that to remove the dividing line ('fraction bar'), this at least gives you the effect of a superscript directly above a subscript which looks OK .

The PHP code just receives AJAX requests when you click Render Equation and passes them to codecogs.com to create the actual have it constantly update the rendered....
The editor is all in Javascript, which you can of course reference from .NET.

Load LyX and a LaTex disto such as Texlive
It runs natively in Linux (I think there's a Windows port).
It's very intuitive - and you get the symbols and all the capabilities...
