You may not even arrive at Euston on time.
To Euston earlier, or fly later? It depends, some interntational flights expect you to be at check in 3.

Walk along Euston Road to Euston Station - unless you manage to get a taxi off the street you could spend longer queuing at KX for a taxi Ticket offices at KX, St Pancras and Euston are normally open leave your hotel at 8.....

To stay in the underground station, due to the signage etc, at Euston get on the Northern Line(black of Euston, and walking the short distance down the road to Kings Cross Station.

I doubt the fares would be significantly higher for black cabs from the rank at Euston.
It's difficult for private cabs to pick up at Euston - though you could call and see where they might do this.
