Normally your passport needs to be good for at least 6 months after your entry date, but with travel to the US you....
We traveled last year to the US with our passport expiry date 4 days after retuning from Disney and had no problems.

I'm planning to go Mexico in the next few weeks and my passport expires on May 16th. I've heard some countries and airlines refuse passports that expire within 6 months of the date of travel.
Does anyone know if I'd be refused at the airport with a passport...

I stand corrected.I took my boy to Maui in December with a passport that expires in midI thought every country that required a passport needs at least 6 months remaining to be valid.

My (Cdn) passport expires in March 2012 and I depart PV Feb 20.
Possible concern would be if a medical issue arose which required a stay in PVR past my passport expiry on T/A....

Do children's passports (5 year ones) display the parents names and details?
I'm about to renew my kids passports for a further 5 years, their current passports are with their father, but we are travelling in June so need to renew them and he is not forthcoming...

As said no parents name appear....
I had to ring them today, was only passport.
Neither parents name is on the actual passport..you do need to send the old one back when renewing though you could always ring the passport office for advice.

As long as your application was made before expiry of your visa - Its ok if it has expired whilst under process, But i do not see how can you enter in UK on duplicate passport.

Once we (hopefully) arrive in Oz ours and the childrens passports will run out, do we then reapply in Oz for Autralian passports or back in UK for British ones?

You can call UKBA and ask for the Recorded Delivery number for your passport.
Though it says to arrive after the BRP.
