It seems whenever there are static objects, _CrtDumpMemoryLeaks returns a false positive claiming it is leaking memory. I know this is because they do not get destroyed until after the main() (or WinMain) function. But is there any way of avoiding this...

It generally leads to headaches (initialization order, de-initialization order etc) .
Not a direct solution, but in general I've found it worthwhile to move as much allocation as possible out of static initialization time .

They of course help, but it takes quite a while to assert false positives.
By my experience all static (as well as runtime-) code analysis tools report many false positives (i tried some of them).

So, if it is not a false positive, it looks like SAS is detecting something.
If it is not a false positive, it looks like SAS is detecting something that it introduced nearly three of significance.
I got two false positive test with home pregnancy tests and then went to the doctor and they said its negative. Three months later I got another positive test for sure hoping they were wrong but the next day I got spotting... but that can be normal early...
