Like anybody I like a good book or movie, especially if they have the cool programmer guy who ends up saving the world and getting the girl at the same time. Unfortunately, most works of fiction, especially movies, are really bad at getting the details...

What is the single, most tiresome sub-genre of Science Fiction (including fantasy or almost-horror fiction)?
Some of them seem to be abused so much that the mere mention of them in a story is an instant deal-breaker for me.
