I've been considering going to film school for some time now, but as far as I understand, it's hard to do something with a degree in film, and I don't want to be in debt for the rest of my life for nothing!

On the school you go to, there should be some purely academic film stuff that allows you more exposure you do in school.

If it's smaller, there may be a bit more drama but... .
If it's larger, there is less drama (unless you try and involve yourself in dama) .
If you are in a bad neighborhood, then yes, it probably be very horrible but in a nice place, it's not bad .
