Why does you MIL think the current economic issues would play a part? Do you have sufficient income? Does the house appraise out? If your credit is good (720-740 is) and both of the previous questions are yes, then I'd say you should be fine .

I totally agree with you. I was in Financial analysis as well for little over 2 years and I had the same exact issue. It was a good paying job but it never kept me busy.
