Does anyone have any tips on bending 1/8" x 1" flat 6061 Aluminum? This is flat stock from Home Depot if it matters.

the "tone" of the surface on 1/8" aluminum
should be okay.
As you noticed aluminum won't change color like steel will.

I've seen a lot of people use a piece of billet aluminum to draw the heat away from their work piece. Is billet aluminum better than normal aluminum for absorbing heat? Where can I find a nice size piece to clamp my work pieces to it?

Go to your scrap dealers and see if they have large pieces of heatsink material or large aluminum bus bars (calling electrical of Copper flat bar are even better....
Alumium costs $1.50/lb billet is no better than any other aluminum.

Right now I'm flat broke, cause I spent my last dollars on ink. Would aluminum foil work for flossing as a alternative to brass shim, for the moment?
This is for an inexpensive pen.

The copper used to treated the wood reacts with the aluminum hull.
