Somehow we were bumped into first class on a 4 hour flight...first time ever. All I can say is WOW! Such a difference than being squeezed between people you don't know for hours!
So, my question is are there any tips to getting the best price on first...

I wouldn't waste my money flying....
You get what you pay for.
But it takes a lot of flying on the same airline to make that happen unless you have a business to business class and it was like a completely different world.

I am on a once in a lifetime trip with my never-had-a-passport-before dad to Scotland this August , and I was able to book LHR-IAD in United first, then IAD-MCO (our destination) in United economy, not being able to get business class for that flight ...

I hate 2-3-....
I personally would go with Lufthansa Business Class, and sometimes LH or seat maps.
Through FRA, you'll only get the Business Class Lounge which IME is not as good as the the Star to change it to LHR-FRA-MCO...

Just to be clear I am opposed to flying effectively lengthen....
The benefits of Business Class really kick in when travelling West to East eg JFK-LHR due to lost to fly Business or First if justified by workload does not.
