Im looking for a new vehicle with a budget in $7-8000 range. Would like to have it 4wd as we get a fair amount of snow/ice. Like the ford escape and seems to get fairly good mileage. Any thoughts on a escape or different vehicle? Thanks

Put 185,000 mi on....
Bought the first one its first model year, 2001.
I am on my second Escape.
YES YES YES.
On average, I get about 22 mpg with most of that being highway .
Had it now for 2 years, seems to do well .
I drive a 2005 AWD Escape.

I placed this on the Explorer forum since there were a few members who thought that perhaps Ford would make the Escape a true 'off-roader' with the Explorer now being unibody.
I was watching one of those 1/2 hour car review shows (Car Business) on TV ...

2001 ford escape. cannot open back door and glass. there is no kep option, only auto and they are not working. checked fuses, all other doors working fine,

Depending on the engine, Ford says that the new Escape is up to five miles per gallon on the market today....
But under the automaker's One Ford plan to 3,500 pounds.
Of the more traditionally styled Escape here in North America.
