(I prefer to straighten seascapes.) The closer the subject the... .
If there are straight lines, the distortion is greatly exaggerated, such as seascapes .
With landscapes many times you do not see the distortion .
It all depends on what you will be shooting.

And if there are strong verticals in the frame.
The stretching of pixels at the edges of the picture can keep the horizon centered in the frame.
Than you would defishing a fisheye shot.

Go back a year later and take a frame the same way in the same spot and you can see...
Go back a year later and take a frame of a pack of trees.
With the lens facing straight up in the middle of a pack of trees .
