Has anyone ever sent something other than flowers to a funeral? I'm wondering how I would handle it. Instead of flowers, I would like to send a Willow Tree figurine. Could I just buy it, and drop it off at the funeral home? Would that be tacky? I'm trying...

Do people lay a single flower or a few of them at a time on a casket the flowers so that different members of the family can place them on the coffin at the cemetary.

For FIL's funeral last summer the funeral home transported all the plants from the home where the family service was to the church for the funeral.

We sent quite a few tropical flowers which most people will probably....
You could also try tropical flowers.
A Christmas cactus or Moss Roses, something that will bloom are much hardier than roses .
That won't die as quickly as cut flowers.

Supplying flowers yourself is cheaper than the undertakers of €2k.
Edited to say both my parents have requested cremation Funeral was 6500 inc undertakers, coffin, flowers car (as well as the hearse) is not cheap.

If nothing else, wait a few days and send a card and flowers to the deceased family with your will care if you miss the funeral....
