GEDCOM is a standard for exchanging genealogical data.
I've found parsers written in
C perl Ruby and even Factor but none so far written in Python. The closest I've come is the file _GedcomParse.py from the GRAMPS project, but that is so full of references...

I found that dealing with the GEDCOM data in an XML format was much.
A few years ago I wrote a simplistic GEDCOM to XML translator in Python as part of a larger project .
No matter which option you used.

I imported a gedcom (Legacy originated), all looks OK except....no reports will generate properly. Journal and Descendant (reports and charts) will only list generation 1, and only 1 person: "an unknown person."

Gedcom I am not good with computers and I need to make a gedcom. I can get to the bit in Family Tree Maker where you make the Gedcom, but then it has to be saved somewhere. I don't know how to find it when it's been saved and I don't know how to attach...

Errors in gedcom from Legac. I had always thought that the gedcom system was infallible. Not so.
Have justed exported a gedcom from Legacy 7 to Brothers Keeper and ran the inconsistency report to find that several dates have been transferred

It may be possible to export the file as a v5.5 gedcom (not updated since 1999 of file, other than converting....
If the information in the file is already in gedcom format (just stored in a .odt container), you very long winded.

The first step is to lay out who you want to include and then get those people to a Focus Group .

I'm not familiar with Gedcom, but I suspect that it is a proprietary format
that Visio will not recognize directly.
You can check to see what formats the Gedcom program will allow you to save
/ export to. Visio may be able to read something that Gedcom...
