I can't comment on Blood Parrots as I've never kept them .
They all get relatively large cichlid would work (maybe a Blue Acara?).
You seem to like the CA's.
Be fine with any cichlid you decide on.

What would be the ideal stock list for a 30 gallon African tank? There are a lot of nice looking fish in the African family but I am a beginner with cichlids and don't want to keep killing fish. Any advice will be appreciated.

And as DJ requested, let us know dimensions of the tank .
Get an idea of what you'd like and we can help you finalize a list .
Is the tank 30" long or longer? Take a look at the cookie cutters .

2 Blood....
They have the potential to reach 10" although it is rare .
-- No, Blood Parrots need a 40-50 gallon.
A 29 gallon could only", and no that's not rare either.
Discs, they are much better suited for a tank of at least 55 gallons.

But....
Very few times we leave the window open for the sun .
I usually have shutters closed so it doesnt effect much .
Never had an issue with algea.
Going to have a big algae problem.
Nice, but I wouldn't keep the sun exposed directly on the tank like that .

GL to you in your choices but id wait on most of the malawis you like until... .
Brichardi, julies, shellies, caudo's, etc.
Try some kind of species tank with some tangs.
Honestly a tank that small isnt much use for malawis .
Pick a region and go from there.

Hi all after a tank disaster in a community tank I have decided to go with malawi cichlids. Tank is being set up (60 gallon with ocean rock) and I will be browsing and learning over the next week or so before my first fish.
Regards
