Answer Snippets (Read the full thread at yahoo):
cichlid stones work well and are cheap.....
All cichlids need caves or shelters.
Go to liveaquaria.com, look at the cichlids and there max size.
Depends on size.
Depends on the cichlid...many types of cichlids out there.

The rest all have some drawbacks:
1 yellow auratus - may end up male, extremely aggressive either way, needs large tank... .
They're good looking fish, and you already have a nice group going .
Estherae.
I'd keep the red and OB zebras, they're probably all M .

I would suggest are an African cichlid, while....
The rams would probably die.
They cannot mix.
Yellow labs are an African cichlid, while Blue rams are a south American dwarf Cichlid.
Of substrate, rock, water parameters you should have.

My friend has a South american cichlid tank with a 4inch Salvini and a 7inch Jack Dempsey. Would adding an african cichlid of similar size be possible? He has a 30Gallon tank.

I'm not a expert but isn't a 30 gallon to small for a JD I would have to agree that its to small cichlid tanks with Angels, two severums, tetras and have one Bumble Bee African cichlid in my 55gal have too many problems from it.
