Nope, but a sound card will benefit, but a sound card will benefit you, if you have decent headphones or a nice speaker system.
Maybe not, but it should sound better.

I don't know but I have been having this urge to get a sound system for gaming. I am tired of using headphones and even the ones I use are el cheapo JVC 10$ phones coz my kid breaks a pair each month or maybe every alternate month.

Sometimes I use my logitech 5.1 surrou8nd sound, the headphones with 3DCMSS set to 7.1 sound better and imo have better at this point) for normal games....
Sennheiser 595 cans with auzentech xfi forte 7.1 sound card w/ headphone amp.

I use my 50" Samsung plasma for gaming and home theater and I don't have to worry about it when gaming like burn in and ....
For a cheap and good in the box surround sound, I have the Onkyo HT S3300 got it for about $300ish damn hard.

Basically what I want is a surround sound headset I can use with both my PS3 and my Xbox 360 and use the headset for voice chat on both consoles.
Something good-quality but reasonably priced, maybe around £100-120 mark?
