That is all fine since unplugging....
Only panel lights dimmed as if the headlights were on, including the gear indicator.
My truck does the same thing, lights all dim think it is the alternator.
Sounds like your alternator may be on its last legs .

With leds, it will be very be to wire through the factory dimmer .
El wire gives a much more even coverage (light looks like stock).
They also include anyway.
I used and converted all of my lights over to blue LEDS and it worked great.
