With no more big APOS or Maks being made, I am wondering if a Dall Kirkham Cass works as well as a Mak. My interests are mainly planetary viewing and imaging.

The mak cass is basically an astrograph, optimized for a flat, wide field photography, that is also very robust when used as a grab and go scope for visual astronomy.

We are planning to head up to Cass this weekend as I have a friend that lives on Star Island. From what we hear it is driveable at this point. We have 2 small Suv's.
We are not the daring type to be the 1st to try, but from others we have heard people...

If you go on the lake at the Hwy cold! No it's good out on both Pike and Cass.

Cass VS King's
I'd like to try to settle this once and for all here. I'm going to list the pros and cons of Cass and King's to try to reach a conclusion about which one I should opt for. Hopefully the advice i'm listing to help consolidate my own decision...

O Cass was very sluggish and didn't eat much today, there is some loose skin and I feel she is loosing wieght. The basking temp dropped down to 112 problems with the bulbs I immediately replaced them and now it's 140-150 so I hope that was the problem...

I would go with the biggest clear aperture aperture, I would go with the SCT.
cass was designed and is best used as an astrograph and as a robust grab and go scope been Celestron SCTs that have tested with better optics.
