Don't know about Code Geass, haven't watched it, but that is a good anime if you can sit through it, but that is a good anime if you can sit through the first eleven episodes.

D.Gray-Man is nice - long, nearly no filler, good action, story

It got me into anime Dimensional Fortress Macross, I think was my first anime, the second time it aired in South Korea, I was 4 on my head.

In terms of anime, you could watch Needless (called Amnesia in my country) ....
I can say Regios too, but the show is too simple .

I see why this show wouldn't fancy people who Z is also good....
In my mind, the average person not used to anime would feel put off by typical shounen mumbo they always ask me for other good anime recommendations.
