I'm considering a ThinkPad X200. There's a 128 GB SSD option, and since I'm a huge fan of the Intel X25-M SSD I've been using on my older X61s, I'm thinking of going with that. I am kind of worried because I've read a lot of discussion of SSDs online ...

Samsung SSD: 90MB/Sec Read - 70MB/Sec Write Intel X25-M SSD: 250MB/Sec Read - 170MB....
Compared to the X25-M you're used to it will be a fair bit slower .
You can find it's specifications here.
It comes with a Samsung 128GB Flash SSD.

Amazon doesn't charge you until the item is shipped....
The 8-9 day wait is quite useful if you don't need the SSD right away.
Started at US$289 when it's up to US$229 now.
Price on amazon has only been going down for this SSD for the past month.

Heck the SSD probably is not as good.
They are no better than what you get aftermarket.
They are a huge ripoff.

I would say that heat isn't an issue for regular hard drives either .
So no, not really.
SSD's produce less heat than a regular hard drive.

You have 4 Sata 6.0Gb ports Sata 3.0GB ports Yea, (imo), the only reason... .
I fixed the links improvement SSD's need to be on the Sata3(6GB) ports for best speed.
I would do the OS on the non raided drives and put your apps on the raided SSD.
So basically I have an SSD already for my OS and programs, but I have a lot of data files which I use regularly. GIS, databases etc... anyway I have them on regular old HDD which slows things down a lot. I was wondering if anyone has used the SSD caching...

I have an Intel SSD(80GB) for my system, but since it's very small I use a 2TB HDD for most of my applications....
Using a older MLC SSD (such as the old JMicron ones) is probably not a very good ideaI am using such configuration.

If you make the move to SSD, both OS and applications should be on SSD.
