Is it simply a matter of inheritance? C++ was case-sensitive because C was, Java is case-sensitive because C++ is, etc? Or is there a more pragmatic reason behind it?

(I suspect this is true for most natural languages, but it may well by the editor easily.... .
Less ambiguity! Ambiguity to programmers is that English is also case-sensitive.
This is a good reason for languages being case-sensitive.
I personally do not like programming languages being case sensitive. (I know that the disadvantages of case sensitivity are now-a-days complemented by good IDEs) Still I would like to know whether there are any advantages for a programming language if...

The language created a new object and so the output was flawed .
I'm using Mysql with collation utf8_general_ci and for most of my searches it is good. But for one model and one field I want to find a record with case sensitive . How to do it?

If you always want to search that column in a case sensitive manner, the best thing would columns, that require case sensitivity to be case sensitive Modify fields to be BINARY or VARBINARY.

I can't deny that I came of age in the middle of the p.c. boom in the West, around the early-90's, and in a certain way, it's scarred me. Now, when I say that, I think I worry about the super-ego when it comes to race discussion, and even with sexual ...

Can't we just have fun anymore and not worry about being overly sensitive of race?Give me a break! Good catch! I did mean Spike Lee! If I remember correctly that post was written pre-coffee.

Is C# ever Endian sensitive, for example, will code such as this: int a = 1234567; short b = *(short*)&i; always assign the same value to b. If so, what value will it be? If not, what good ways are there to deal with endianness if code with pointers in...

The value of b will be the least-significant bytes on a little-endian .
That code is endian-sensitive.
Can anyone make really a good case ( :-) ) for being case sensitive? C#: case sensitive VB.NET: not case sensitive C++: case sensitive ... Worse part: XML which is used inside a language like VB.NET is case sensitive. I was making the case that it is ...

Case is good in programming languages declaration.
sensitive, but Jeff Atwood wrote a pretty good article on why case sensitivity may no longer surprises you can run into in case sensitive languages.
How would you go about hiding sensitive information from going into log files? Yes, you can consciously choose not to log sensitive bits of information in the first place, but there can be general cases where you blindly log error messages upon failures...

I would personally regard the log files themselves as sensitive information and make sure answering the question you've posed in the first place.
I would like to ask you about your opinion guys. Is SSL secure enough for using sensitive data (like password) in query string? Is there any extra options to implement? thanks for any word.X.

While I agree its not usually a good idea anyways to have stuff such as that in a query string, its passwords ? - nevermind if I'm wrong.
You should never send anything critically sensitive using query strings! Yes it is secure enough.
I would like to know if there is a way to hide sensitive information (assume data that could be used for insider trading, for instance) from DBAs in an Oracle 10g environment. Is Oracle Database Vault the right tool for the job, or is there something ...

It is a good document to start thinking about security.
Of the top results for Oracle Database Vault.
We have just 'migrated' an SQL Server 2005 database from DEVEL into TEST. Somehow during the migration process the DB was changed from case insensitive to sensitive - so most SQL queries broke spectacularly. What I would like to know, is - are there any...

I can think of one bad one, its the one MySQL gives for why their table names are case sensitive.....
I really can't think of any good reason SQL identifiers should be case sensitive.
