Its main just about any other spell checker ....
It can either be used as a library or as an independent spell checker.
Did you try GNU Aspell ?
GNU Aspell is a Free and Open Source spell checker designed to eventually replace Ispell.

I want to process a medium to large number of text snippets using a spelling/grammar checker to get a rough approximation and ranking of their "quality." Speed is not really of concern either, so I think the easiest way is to write a script that passes...

I've got one now. I've written "Maybe a power walk." And the grammar check wants me to change it to either "maybe a powers walk" or "maybe a power walks." That doesn't even make sense!

They are likely to be limited that the grammar checker is annoying, but I leave it on because sometimes, just sometimes, it's rightI have....
But the grammar checker doesn't know that power is a noun that can't actually walk.

I've got one now. I've written "Maybe a power walk." And the grammar check wants me to change it to either "maybe a powers walk" or "maybe a power walks." That doesn't even make sense!

They are likely to be limitedI have to admit that grammar is my biggest weakness - I was either asleep during the relevant' and 'past participle....
But the grammar checker doesn't know that power is a noun that can't actually walk.

I'm glad others have come across the -self one, I was beginning to think I had it wrong!
I am very happy to simply ignore the checker if I decide I'm right, but it never does any harm to be questioned and then check I do actually have it right. Consequently...

But yeah, the grammar wizard is useless for most cases - although sometimes I'm about to send a manuscript....
Off my grammar checker when it informed me I was being sexist for using policewoman and lady (Lady installed is English (UK).

I have to admit that grammar is my biggest weakness - I was either asleep during the relevant' and 'past participle' were during my first French and German lessons.
