I was listening to "Just What I Needed" by the Cars this morning, and marveled at how great the cymbal crash sounds right after the first synth break -- CRASH! But it didn't overwhelm or wash over the recording.

Ok, some great cymbal moments in jazz would be anything by Jake Hanna in Woody had a great China ride cymbal that cut through the band and really sounded great! The Mosaic Select can when Crimson went....

Just wondering....I see so many cymbals on ebay that look great only to read the item description "slight crack, but does not affect the sound in any way" LOL. Are people actually successful in selling cracked cymbals?

Having always picked my cymbals from stock by playing them in the shop.
How safe is it to order,say a Dream Bliss vintage from a retailer and get a cymbal that sounds as near as dammit to the You Tube demo sound files. Has anyone any advise.

Trying to not buy beginner level cymbals.
cymbal is a great addition to the existing Meinl Byzance Dry Ride - the Doppler 18'' actually sounds I rubbed the logo completely off.

Do you have a cracked cymbal that you think that has had it's day? Here's an alternative to buying a brand new one.
The basic premise of what I do is to remove the area of cracked cymbal and finish and shape it so it eliminates any chance of the crack...
