My usb portable hard drive fell off the table, landed on the floor and started to make a horrible grinding noise. I assume the platters fell off the spindle? (I think i'm making these terms up)
If i open it up (seagate barracuda) would i be able to salvage...

Your best bet is to backup your data as quickly as possible .

If you open a hdd you'll lose all data unless you send it to some fancy data recovery lab and that costs oodles of money .

The joint might just be wornout aswell.
At up it up with grit.
Or is it more a metal on metal grinding noise? Long shot but might be worth jacking.

This is happening on a friends 05 FXT auto.
Apparently, when he is doing a slow turn, there is a grinding noise coming from the front that he can feel in the steering wheel. It's more pronounced on 90 degree turns.
Anyone ever heard of this?

if it was a wheel bearing, wouldn't that be griding all the time?
One other thing, the tires something similar but mine....
The pads and rotors and that fixed the grinding noise.

I was hoping be making noise while driving on the....
It whines when cruising in 5th speeds with road noise.
That is acting similarly, without the grinding noise though.

i have an 03 SSS with 60K miles and i have a grinding noise and it seems to be coming from the frontend. i check the transfercase fluid and its full and also check the front for fluid and it seems fine aswell. it grinds...

Well, what is going on here. My pdvc is making a noise. The only thing I can describe it as is metal vibrating or maybe the sound of someone grinding metal in a shop. It is a very faint noise, not loud or anything. It maybe my imagination, but the blower...

It starts at around 10 MPH....
If not, you may have.
If the noise goes away, most likely its the driveshaft.
Its not a constant grind it has intervals like something is grinding as I'm driving driveshaft off if it is.
That drive shaft.
