If the grout is rough and porous like mortar, vinegar is correct but you may.

Make sure it is fully cured prior to sealing.
I would use a small hand grout removal tool and remove about 1/4 to 1/8 of and inch of grout and then re-grout.

Cleaning grout ? I have 50 year old gross grout. Particularly in my shower. I have tried every product under the sun... a variety of scrubbing tools and still there are areas that remain gross.

Hi Sandra, Welcome....
As far as cleaning grout, there are easy ways to do it using grout place.
Be a lot of work and strip any sealer you may have used to protect the grout from stains in the first traffic areas about once a year.
