For the lower bass notes, the fundamental is simply not needed or was it there to color the song or can you....
Also you might wanna adjust the action more than adequate low end .
The occasional low D, you'll be alright with your current bass.

guitar then I'd say you had a definite advantage when it comes to learning bass (or banjo, mandolin, ukulele, dulcimer etc.), but if you are sure it is bass that you want to learn then learning guitar to play bass, ....

I currently play with an ensemble that consists of 1 drummer, 1 bassist, 1 piano player, 1 synth player, 1 or two acoustic guitars and one electric guitar. wanted a beefy guitar sound with some low(er) end.
