Hi, if one travels to US on H4 as her husband's dependent, can her employer file H1 petition during her leave? Suppose the employer can keep her job during her H4 traveling.

You just need to get the H4 stamped based on your husband's H1B petition.

The I94 with out leaving the USA? The H4 visa could have issued for a lesser duration than the approval to extend her H4 status.

Hello, My family is on H4 and it is about to expire in May 2012 along my H1...they have to go to India and so they plan to attend the stamping there...but usually the H4 approval doc I do not get until 3 or 4 months after expiry and it is way too long...
