My TiVo with TMS data from Comcast Sunnyvale HD thinks it's recording the HD version of tonight's Daily Show right now, but it's really some dude doing standup.

For the second recording it may see the SD card and record to it.
The only way it will record to the HD even if you toggle SD is when the PVR cannot detect SD card recording.

During the last week or so we have been encountering problems with scheduled recordings not taking place.
It first appeared to be random & I carried out a factory reset & entered the scheduled recordings again. It is still problematic and this evening...

During the adverts, half way through the episode, I set it to manually record by pressing the record button & the message came....
And this evening it was set to record Emmerdale on ITV1 HD, but failed to start recording.

I noticed last week when recording Hawaii 5-0 on Sky1 HD the beginning was really choppy, picture breaking up, that coincided with recording Top Gear in HD, the end of that got messed up
Thursday night, recorded Mad Men on Sky 1 HD, same time recorded...

I at the moment work in a call center for UPC and have the service at home. I really want to upgrade to a recording box and i also want to go HD but the problem is i don't trust the UPC DVR's and i know UPC's HD channels are limited, defiantly in comparison...

Timer recording can only be done in SDIt sounds like you're not ....
I can watch everything, but cannot record any BBC HD or ITV1 HD channel, although both appear and the same problem when trying to record with timer .
