What occurred to me is that there appears to be very little research into the dangers of chemical relaxers. The cynic in me would say that it’s probably because black hair care is a billion dollar industry and money talks, walks and rules. But there is...

Does anyone have an opinion on these, particularly the "no base" ones (not the ones in the box). I am also interested in how a lye relaxer can be "no base," must be quite gentle.

Hair relaxers, relatedsome....
It DOES contain alcohol, and is drying to the hair, but drying hair you get straighteners and relaxers top the hair products pose the greatest risks.
Or relaxers & perming hair.

For me, that is a load ....
Honest opinion, a lot of black women relax/perm their hair because they/we have an inferiority complex of them tend to relax/perm their hair under the premise that it helps manage their hair.

Feeling lost about DD1's hair! I've just been so indoctrinated to NOT relax her hair or cut it short or in any way alter it to make it more "white" or send a message that it needs to be made more "manageable."
But I'm now living in a city with salons ...

Relaxing....
I hate the idea my daughter's hair.
Of cutting hair that took so long to grow, but at age 7 or 8, I don't think I would be ready to relaxIf it were me, I probably would cut her hair (gasp) to a more manageable length.

From their hair, skin, and all the other things you have a problem with people telling little black girls that their natural hair is beautiful for 500 yrs??? Fuck outta here.
Blk/non-white girls embrace their natural beauty.

So what do you ladies do with your hair? Is it easy to get relaxers, braids etc? I wear braids 80% of the time and I do have relaxed hair. What do you recommend I do with my hair before I arrive there?
I hope there are some on Value MD to help me.
Thanks...
