That make noise tends to have serious problems and not last long after the noises begin.
I've got a Asus u36sd and there seems to be small "chirping" noises coming from the left air vents. They are only audible when very quiet and about the same noise level as the harddrive. Can anyone confirm if this is normal and if it is infact coming ...

Is it not the HD head seeking/stopping? My WD scorpio makes that chirping noise whenever windows daunting.

The drives are PATA but they are pretty fast and have been reliable .
320GB in my 17" PowerBook and a 250GB in my wife's 1Ghz 12" PowerBook .
I'm using Western Digital's Scorpio Blue drives.

My external hard drive isn't being recognised by the laptop. It is just making beeping noises. Is there anything I can do to get it to work, and if not, who should I send it off to, and how much can I expect it to cost?

Could be any of several causes: Harddrive dead not enough power (try with laptop plugged into mains - not on battery power) faulty cable faulty usb port Is it making the same noise as in this youtube.

My Samsung hard drive is making some weird noises. Sometimes, the noise stops but then starts again within a few minutes. It's warranty is out of date, so I am worried that the noise may indicate an imminent failure. Any help would be appreciated.

Is correct, what is the noise? Have you tested it with a smart test..? Remember though, SMART don't have somewhere to put backups, go buy a new harddrive and clone everything onto that.
Hello! So about 5 years ago I got a IIVX from a local thrift store. When I first booted it I got the "?" floppy. Rebooted it a few times and it finally booted to system 7. I think I was doing a Norton virus scan or something when it froze and never booted...

Many SCSI hard drives, and most likely a Connor....
Typically, the CD is set to ID = 3 and the boot drive to ID = 0 (though 1 or 2 will work fine) .
If the IIvx has a CD drive, you need to make sure the drive is numbered/ identified differently than the CD .

It didn't affect the HDD noise, though with Acrylic.
It made a noticeable difference in reducing the fan noise (or at least 'bouncing' it out the back of the case, instead of the front).
And stuck in in my case.
When I put the C-300 on standby with the powerbutton/backside the device is totally silent. When I turn it on with the powerbutton/frontside (or remote) and sometime later put it back into standby mode I hear some soft electronic noise (not my harddrive...

Compared to my previous C200 - which was dead silent - this one emits? Mine always gives the buzzing noise unless it is switched off via the hardware power button of the C300 PSU but better quality, it also ....
My PSU also makes some noise.
