I got interested in this after I saw SquareUp use the headphone jack on the iPhone to send credit card data.
What's the average bandwidth of the headphone jack on the iPhone, average notebook, and average mobile device?
Can it be doubled by sending different...

I would maximum is 48Khz stereo, lots of devices can handle 96 Khz .
And that's MONO.
Standard analog lines that aren't even as clean as your typical headphone jack.

My headphones broke off and the tip is stuck inside the jack. I don't know how to get it out but I tried a sewing needle, it's thin enough but I can't force out the piece. Any suggestions?

I just bought a new 13 in macbook air and when i plug in headphones, it takes about 5 seconds for the computer to recognize them and switch the sound over. is this normal? Should i get it replaced? Thanks
