How do I get my sound working again? It works with Headphones, but when I unplug the headphones a red light is coming out of the headphone jack and I can't adjust the volume on my Macbook Pro.

The red light is there is a switch in the jack that tells it if you have a mini headphone plug or an optical plug plugged into the headphone....

You can use a Flexible Headphone Adapter Jack
like the one offered case design ( like a variation of Jam Jacket here ) that protects the audio jack.

But course what comes out of the headphone jack is analog....
I would maximum is 48Khz stereo, lots of devices can handle 96 Khz .
And that's MONO.
Standard analog lines that aren't even as clean as your typical headphone jack.

My iPhone 3G is stuck on "Headphone mode", so when I make/receive calls there is no sound. The only way to make calls is using hands free mode.
I've googled it and it seems to be pretty comon when some debris get's into the jack, the iPhone believes it...

In short, I would suggest that you fix.
There is no clearly defined way to disable the headphone jack without jailbreaking (Apple is picky to disable the jack if someone develops a jailbroken app.

I just upgrade a HP Pavilion tx2000 64-bit from Windows Vista to Windows 7. This was a clean install and NOT a upgrade. Now both headphone jacks do not work.

Since it doesn't appear that a Windows 7 driver is available, you could try the one provided directly... .
You should always first check to see if the manufacturer provides the correct driver first .
Try running the driver in compatibility mode for Windows Vista .

I could well have what you need as I have a 2220,a 2216,a 4230 and a 1030 the same jack for the ....
Resistors with a pair of 220 ohm 3W resistors, and wire up the new jack like every other headphone models with the same jack.

Sorry, probably a dumb question, but are quarter inch plug headphone inputs/jacks and mini plug inputs/jacks the same? I have an option to use either in my headphone amp and have both options on my Senn HD-580's. Are they the same?

If most of your cans have a 1/4" plug then use... .
Look at the plugs on your present (and possible future) headphone(s).
The 1/4" female jacks vary durability.
It's usually the fault of the female end jack you plug into though.

This only converts the red and white stereo output jacks to a headphone jack that are amplified.

So, there's no audiophile grade headphone amp inside a MacBook Pro unfortunately. Still, there can be tremendous variation between the quality of the headphone output on a laptop.
