I got interested in this after I saw SquareUp use the headphone jack on the iPhone to send credit card data.
What's the average bandwidth of the headphone jack on the iPhone, average notebook, and average mobile device?
Can it be doubled by sending different...

But course what comes out of the headphone jack is analog....
I would maximum is 48Khz stereo, lots of devices can handle 96 Khz .
And that's MONO.
Standard analog lines that aren't even as clean as your typical headphone jack.

My headphones broke off and the tip is stuck inside the jack. I don't know how to get it out but I tried a sewing needle, it's thin enough but I can't force out the piece. Any suggestions?

I bought a twin phone lead, connected it to two-phono to 3.5mm stereo adaptor, and finally to a 3.5 stereo coupler.
