As far as I've been able to tell, whenever you override an audio route in the iPhone, you have to change both the output AND input routes together. The only available routes I'm aware of are:

There's a low constant buzz on the headphone output of my CR-420 (1970s vintage receiver) that makes it very annoying to listen to. The buzz is still there with the volume all the way down. I cannot hear it at all through speakers- only in the headphones...

For each headphone output (phone A and phone B) there is a 180 Ohms, 2 Watts, resistor in series with each channel of the headphone.
