I determined my 20 min threshold heart rate to be 179 bpm in an afternoon test. The only time I have to ride is before work, 75% of which is before sunrise. I'm finding that when riding at zone 2 heart rate this early, it FEELS like threshold.

I do a good bit of riding early in the AM and find heart rate is sort: : I determined my 20 min threshold heart rate to be 179 bpm in an afternoon test.
Needs to be adjusted accordingly.

I was reading the article in fitness section and it said you should do 60-75% of your maximum heart rate. For me that would be 125 approximately. Only thing is when I work out I easily stay in the range of 140-170. I don't see how I could get a good workout...

The usual formula people use is 220 minus your age to get... .
There are other heart rate reaches 90% of max for short durations with no problems.
According to my calculations your maximum heart rate is approx 193 BPM (220 - 27).

You could try yoga. It's a calming exercise. Maybe just walking for cardio exercise. Also, stay away from caffiene. Oh, and make sure you don't get dehydrated, that will cause the heart rate to go up too. I am 38 yr old female Condoms
