It is impossible to "hide" your IP address, you can route your internet traffic through various other a proxy to "hide your ip." One of my favorite web proxy's is http://www.hidemyass.com .

Sometimes when I'm downloading free and open source software via bit-torrent I like to hide who I am to mix things up a bit. It's probably more secure too. How does one do that? I can't imagine it's easy.

As soon as you are downloading a piece of data can try to hide your 'identity' from specific people or organisations, but there is never going to.
You cannot hide your IP address from everyone...

If you make a TCP/IP request, the other end needs to know your real address or you'll never receive a response back.
Unless of course you use proxies and route your traffic through them.

You all must be knowing what Easy Hide IP is.
If you don't know, it is one of the most anonymous VPN.
Even Anti-Proxy/VPN (which most of the GPTs have) cannot detect it.
It has 13 countries and hundreds of different IPs.
But the problem is it is not free...
