You might want to take a look at Generations :
It examines Anglo-American history by dividing it into saecula, or seasonal cycles of history....
The big general go-to book is Sydney Ahlstrom's A Religious History of the American People Noll.

Guards (like giving the
right of way) but they also collect fairs and are usually pretty visible infrastructure, than sold off to private ventures for their gain.
