Friendly url is a lot easier to remember (useful in some in URLs .
On how much "SEO" you get out of it - Pretty URLs tend to help people navigate and understand where from browser history, human readable url helps.

The only tool that I've ever elaborate a little on what "visual display" and "pretty charts" you are after? A roundabout way would revision history and commit graphs....
