The mill was designed for cutting oil not water sol.
The whole trick to running wheels on a sturdy horizontal is keeping the stock from moving oil flood and my cutters last forever.

Javy, Since you are in So Cal, there was a gentleman from Taft selling a Tree horizontal head on Craigslist and eBay for $175.oo within the last year.

On the one I had, if I adjusted the horizontal quill in and out just a bit it would go away, and it would problem.

Retrofitting the mill never crossed my mind.
My CNC mill is from 1982 with a 6M control tooling and an indexer worth the price alone.
Funny what some people think is scrap.
