What will hurt you is havingCarrying a balance does not hurt you if you make at least the minimum payment for that month UNLESS a utilization of open revolving credit....
It is a pay in full each month credit card like most AmEx cards.

I had the same issue before.
Only close that card if it carries temporarily.
If you aren't planning on applying for any other credit in the next year then I wouldn't worry your Length of Credit History
This is 15% of your Fico score.
