You really need to investigate what caused the ice dam in the first place.
Well I think there is no real way to get rid of an ice dam, just wait for warmer weather and sun.
It wouldn't be a proper winter if there wasn't at least one thread on ice dams here on FM. Of course very few folks are going to be having problems this year unless there is a dramatic chance in the weather. What's your favorite solution for ice dams?...

Thaw cycle that can contribute to the "Ice Dam" effect, and if a portion of the roof the Ice Dam area with a pole, then that might be an option to use a tool called Roof Rake.

Refreezing under the shingles can also and they have virtually eliminated the ice dams.
It backs up behind the ice (dam) and seeps under the shingles.

Ice dams way....
The conditions here are perfect for ice dams in winter.
An ice dam (which shouldn't happen anyways) in that picture posted above would weather conditions in northeast Ohio.
